update - July 04, 2007July 03, 2007
As we make our way through summer there are several things we are focusing on around our lawn. Of the primary things, one is cherries and the other is the lilly bed. Not having cleaned the tree yet we've already harvested 2.86 Kg (6.25 lbs) of cherries from the hedelfingen tree. We anticipate between seven and 10 kilos (15 1/2 and 22 lbs) of cherries from that tree. If we don't loose all the cherries from the other tree, we expect up to, about five or so pounds (2.25 Kg) this year.

We're enjoying watching the development of the large lilly bed. We watched as the first (peachy-orange coloured) lillies bloomed in late June. Then the short, bright red Asiatic lillies came to life. As these bright blooms fade the colour show begins with colours ranging from pinks and crimson reds to yellows and white. Planted along the edge of the bed is garlic. Come autumn, we'll have the benefit of fresh garlic.

Behind the lilly bed is the Hedelfingen cherry tree - wrapped in netting to protect it from the birds. To the left, by the walk is a bush of yellow flowers. again this year. These will last for at least, about, another month. On the extreme right of the lawn is spirea. This is the fullest year, yet, for these. We will dead-head them this week and we'll see more blossoms

Impatiens is planted under the mulberry. As summer passes, they will fill out creating a colourful blanket of flowers.

Between the stones of the walkway, we planted alyssum. Over the next couple of weeks it will fill out covering much of the stone ... spreading colour along the walk. A few New perennials have been planted in the beds lining the walk to help maintain a bit more colour.

Update: Final count on hedelfingen cherries - 8.6 Kg (18 3/4 lbs)
