April 23, 2008
We don't seem to be getting much in the way of April showers but we had a
good amount of snow. This has left our lawns well watered and ready for spring.
The irises
and croci
of early April have already run their course. We are now enjoying a sprinkling of
haycinth found in the main lily bed and the walk to the driveway. The cherry
tree in the background will begin to show its flowers tomorrow. You can just
see them ready to open.
Grape hyacinth is has also establishing itself in the bed by the walk to the
driveway along with daffodils. The
sandwort is returning to the upper bed sharing its traditional spring spot
with some pink hyacinth and and strawberry plants. Tulips will start opening
within the next day or so.
The summer annuals are starting to show too. The garden is a fun place at this
time of year.
Our densest daffodil bed is under the peach tree.
This looks like it's just waiting to spring to life! Everything is just around
the corner. The slowest plants are showing active signs of new growth.
The magnolia is putting on quite a show! It usually climaxes within the
first few days of May.
We think it will likely peak tomorrow ... with all the blossoms so close to
opening. When giving it some thought I realize that everything is really only
about ten days ahead of the past few years. It remains to be seen if this turns
out to be significant.
