Not every last bit of snow is gone from our lawn. Some remains, still, between the base of the peach tree and the driveway ... the spot that gets the most snow piled during shovelling.

The birds (chikadees 'n stuff) are nesting in the area. We've seen the first local robin of spring out hunting on the boulevard in front of the house and it (the boulevard) has already been raked/cleaned up. Racoons are starting to occupy favoured spring locations. The neighbourhood is coming back to life.

In the spring growth we saw the tips of what we knew from the blue around the edges were irises but today marked the first day the first one showed itself

On the extreme right of this picture you can see small, rusty pinkish striped foliage of a pinnochio tulip as well as regular tulips and some more irises along the driveway side. At the right front are shoots from, probably daffodils

The first crocus showed up today as well. It is the same as least year's Spring Bee

Of course there are signs of other early flowers such as hyacinths. By May the lawns will be green and in full colour. The fruit trees will sport flowers and the magnolia will be filled with pink - as it always - treating us to a beautiful annual show ... and if we're really lucky we won't have a frost that will kill of our our hard-earned colour.

Unfortunately, the back yard is still covered with smatterings of snow and ice but within a couple of days it will be ready for raking and a bit of summer prep.
